Winter Recap: Snow season officially comes to an end

A City snow plow clears the road in front of City Hall.

Overland Park snow crews prepare to handle anything Mother Nature sends our way each winter by training drivers, practicing routes and coordinating schedules to ensure swift and efficient responses to winter weather events.

With April 1 marking the official end to the snow season, totals for 2023-2024 include:

  • Nine winter weather event responses.
  • 9.8 inches of winter precipitation.
  • 149 staff members worked.
  • More than 21,000 miles driven.
  • 4,977 tons of salt used to prevent icy streets.
  • 5,200 gallons of magnesium chloride used to keep streets safe.

Thank you to our Overland Park snow crews for working hard to keep City roads clear and safe!
