This weekend, Overland Park residents affected by Friday’s severe weather can drop storm debris off at either of two locations in the city.
Overland Park Parks Headquarters, 11921 Hardy, and Young’s Pool, 8421 W. 77th Street, will serve as storm debris drop-off sites from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on the following days:
- Saturday, July 29
- Sunday, July 30
If the drop-off site is busy, the last entries will be 15 minutes prior to closing time.
This is one additional weekend in addition to the previously announced dates of July 16-17 and July 22-23. The City will continue to monitor the need and will announce additional drop-off dates if needed.
What to bring
You must have proof of residency to drop off debris at the site. Staff and volunteers will be checking for either an Overland Park ID, or an ID and matching utility bill with an Overland Park address. Non-residents driving vehicles will be permitted to use the drop-off sites when an Overland Park resident appears with them and with proof of residency.
Branches, limbs, or stumps can be bundled or loose. Please do not bag your debris.
Please plan to unload your vehicle yourself. Volunteers will be on-site to check residents in, but will not be available to help unload vehicles.
Debris from commercial vehicles will not be accepted.
City to remove street tree debris from storm
The City maintains trees in the public right-of-way and will remove storm debris from these trees.
Street trees are typically in the area about 11 feet back from the curb.
If a tree in the right-of-way adjacent to your home was affected by Friday’s severe weather, file an OPCares request to let us know.
The City does not maintain trees on private property.
Residents can also work with their private trash haulers to remove yard debris. Trash haulers in Overland Park are required to provide yard waste pickup during the summer.
Modified pool, recycling center hours
The Recycling Center, which occupies the same space as Parks Headquarters, will be closed on Saturday, July 29 to allow for storm debris drop-off operations.
Young’s Pool will operate modified weekend hours to accommodate storm debris drop-off operations. The pool will be open 2-7 p.m. on Saturday, July 22; Sunday, July 23; Saturday, July 29; and Sunday, July 30. The pool will be open from noon-7 p.m. on weekdays through August 8.
