The City paw-sitively loves animals! To keep your pets and our residents safe and healthy, Overland Park requires pet licenses for all cats and dogs. As the deadline to register your pet approaches, learn more about pet licensing and the importance of registering your furry friend by June 30.
All cats and dogs must be registered by the time they are six months old, or within 30 days of arriving in Overland Park. Licenses are valid Jan. 1 through Dec. 31 and pet owners must renew them annually. Upon licensing their pet, owners will receive a permanent, renewable pet tag for each registration. Up to two dogs and/or two cats may be licensed at the same residence. To own more dogs and/or cats, you must apply for a special animal permit.
Apply for or renew pet licenses online using the City’s online permitting portal, ePLACE.
To apply in person, return a completed license application form to the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 8500 Santa Fe Drive, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. An after-hours drop box is located on the brick enclosure outside of the City Hall front doors.
Pet licensing fees include the following:
- $5 for spayed or neutered and microchipped pets
- $10 for spayed and neutered pets
- $10 for non-spayed/neutered but microchipped pets
- $20 for non-spayed/neutered pet
An additional fee of $20 will be charged for license applications received after June 30. In the event of lost or damaged pet tags, replacements may be purchased for $1. Pet tags are non-transferable.
The City’s pet license requirement protects the public by ensuring all dogs and cats are vaccinated for rabies. Pet tags also assist the City’s animal control operation when returning lost animals to their owners.
