OPPD to honor Officer Deanna Rose on 40th anniversary of end of watch

The Overland Park Police Department, in partnership with Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead, invites the community to a heartfelt event honoring Officer Deanna Rose on the 40th anniversary of her end-of-watch.

Join us at a ceremony commemorating Officer Rose’s dedication and ultimate sacrifice for the Overland Park community on Monday, Jan. 27 at 5:30 p.m. at Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead, 13800 Switzer Rd.

Officer Rose lost her life in the line of duty on Jan. 26, 1985, while attempting to arrest an intoxicated driver. Her courage and commitment to protecting others continue to inspire, making her memory a cornerstone of Overland Park’s legacy. At the time, Officer Rose was the first Overland Park Police officer and the first female officer in Kansas to die in the line of duty.

The Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead was renamed in her honor in 1985 and serves as a lasting tribute to her love of animals, zest for life and dedication to her community. Today, the Farmstead is a cherished family destination and a living reminder of her impact.

The commemorative event will include:

  • An honor guard presentation
  • Moment of reflection with a brief prayer
  • Remarks honoring Officer Rose’s legacy
  • Wreath presentation
  • The Final Call

Join us in remembering and honoring Officer Deanna Rose, a true hero whose dedication to public service remains an inspiration 40 years later.
