The City will hold a Plan Your Park public meeting on Wednesday, April 12 to gather input on design concepts for Bietigheim-Bissingen Park, named in honor of Overland Park’s sister city in Germany. The new park will be located at the northeast corner of 159th Street and Quivira Road.
Overland Park residents are invited to prioritize park amenities, including playgrounds, shelters, athletic courts, walking paths and other creative features and design elements at the City’s first public meeting. Meet with Parks and Recreation staff and offer your feedback at Wilshire by the Lake Clubhouse, located at 11203 W. 157th Terrace on Wednesday, April 12 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. If you are unable to attend the meeting in person, you may provide feedback using this form. Online submissions will remain open through Friday, April 14.
The City plans to incorporate design elements inspired by Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany, and will consult with Sister City officials and visitors throughout planning and construction. Overland Park residents will also be invited to participate in additional public meetings as the design process continues. Construction for this 6.5 acre park is set to begin in 2024, with completion scheduled for spring of 2025.
Since their official establishment as Sister Cities in 1999, Overland Park and Bietigheim-Bissingen city officials have worked together to establish opportunities for both communities. Bietigheim-Bissingen Park will join the City’s growing number of parks and serve as a connection between our community and sister city for years to come.
