Fill your schedule with exciting events happening in Overland Park! From family fun and creative workshops to Governing Body and committee meetings, the City’s event calendar is packed with endless opportunities to get involved in your community and make memories with friends and family:

Summer Camps – June-August
Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead and the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens provide the perfect backdrop for young adventurers to explore, learn, and create lasting memories. From hands-on encounters with farm animals to interactive botanical explorations, summer camps this June-August promise to immerse kids in the wonders of nature and the joys of outdoor play. Walk and Read – June 1-9
Join the Johnson County Library and Overland Park Parks and Recreation for a delightful literary adventure in Thompson Park. This unique outdoor reading experience features pages of “The Collectors” by Alice Feagan and “Everyone Can Learn to Ride a Bicycle” by Christopher Raschka displayed along a scenic walking path. Gather family and friends to discover the joy of reading while getting a little exercise and some fresh air. Paths are stroller and wheelchair friendly, allowing all to join the fun.

Farmers’ Market
Spend Saturday mornings browsing aisles of fresh produce, meats, cheeses and specialty products at the Overland Park Farmers’ Market. Farmers’ Market Wednesdays return June 5! The Farmers’ Market operates from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Art at the Center
Art at the Center is a unique, not-for-profit gallery space featuring exhibitions from local artists. The gallery is free and open every day at Tomahawk Ridge Community Center.

Pollination Investigation
Love pollinators? So do we! That’s why we invited the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and Smithsonian Gardens to share their exhibit, “Pollination Investigation,” with us. The exhibit is on display at the LongHouse Visitor Center at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens daily through November. 

Saturday, June 1
Electronics Recycling + Shredding Event – 9 a.m.-noon
Recycle your electronics (computers, TVs, phones, rechargeable batteries, stereos, etc.) and small appliances (microwaves, toasters, etc.) at the Electronics Recycling + Shredding Event at Indian Woods Middle School. Documents for shredding will also be accepted for a suggested donation of $5 per box.

Sunday, June 2

Emily Dickinson Garden Dedication – 2 p.m.
Join us in celebrating the newest garden addition to the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, the Emily Dickinson Garden. Guests are invited to gather in the new garden space to enjoy a short speaking program, poetry reading, ribbon cutting and acorn planting ceremony, followed by a light social on the Waterside Terrace. Admission to attend the ceremony is free and accessible to all. RSVP online.

Overland Park Civic Band Summer Concert – 7 p.m.
Experience an evening of classical and contemporary music in the open air at Indian Creek Recreation Center. Bring your friends and family, some snacks and a lawn chair or blanket for a free, fun evening of delightful tunes. Established in 1938, the Overland Park Civic Band is made up of talented musicians from across the Kansas City area.

Monday, June 3
Neighborhood Executive Committee Officers Board – 5:30 p.m.
The Neighborhood Executive Committee develops and monitors the progress of the neighborhood programs.

Committee of the Whole: 2025 Budget – 6:30 p.m.
The Committee of the Whole meets on an as-needed basis at City Hall in Conference Room 1.

City Council – 7:30 p.m.
Mayor and Council meetings are held on the first and third Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall in the council chamber.

Tuesday, June 4
Discovery Day at the Arboretum – 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Craft time awaits on the first Tuesday of the month at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. Little explorers are in for a treat as they immerse themselves in the enchanting world of nature and creativity. Each month, a new make-and-take project unfolds on Discovery Day. Crafting supplies are included, and the projects are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. The first Tuesday of the month also happens to be Free Admission Day at the Arboretum, so entry into the gardens and this project are all free!

Goat Yoga – 5:30 & 6:30 p.m.
Get ready for some nature-infused yoga fun with baby goats! Each session combines relaxing yoga poses with the mischievous presence of our goat pals who may decide to photobomb your warrior pose. Certified fitness instructors guide 45 minutes of yoga instruction and 15 minutes of goat socialization. Purchase tickets online in advance.

82nd Street Realignment Open House – 5:30-7 p.m.
The City will hold an informational open house about the 82nd Street Realignment Project at Matt Ross Community Center. This project will realign Marty Street with 82nd Street at Metcalf Avenue. In addition to the realignment, northbound and southbound left turn lanes will be added on Metcalf Avenue and sidewalks will be constructed.

Wednesday, June 5
Giggle Time Children’s Program – 10 a.m.
Get ready for a Giggle Time Children’s Program like no other, featuring the one and only Mr. Stinky Feet! Join us at Roe Park for an unforgettable musical extravaganza that will have your little ones laughing and dancing. Mr. Stinky Feet brings a unique blend of fun tunes and interactive entertainment that’s perfect for children of all ages. Bring the whole family for a toe-tapping, giggle-inducing experience that promises a day filled with joy and music in the heart of Roe Park!

Site Plan Review Committee – 11:45 a.m.
The Site Plan Review Committee makes recommendations to the Planning Commission on matters relating to site planning and architectural details of development proposals. Items may be recommended for committee review by the City Council, the Planning Commission or city staff. The Site Plan Review Committee meets at City Hall. 

Community Development Committee – 7 p.m.
Community Development Committee meetings are held every first Wednesday of every month at City Hall in Conference Room 1.

Thursday, June 6
Legacy of Greenery Committee – 6:30 p.m.
The Legacy of Greenery Committee develops strategies to increase, preserve and enhance the city’s tree canopy by promoting, planting and maintaining trees and shrubs in the city. The Legacy of Greenery Committee meets at City Hall on the first Thursday of every month.

Saturday, June 8
Adaptive Splash – 9-11 a.m.
People with disabilities and their families can enjoy City pools before they are open to the public during Adaptive Splash (formerly known as Saturday Swim) on select summer Saturdays at Tomahawk Ridge Aquatic Center.

Tree Poetry – 9:30 a.m.
In this dynamic poetry class at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, students will embark on a journey through the enchanting world of verse. Our focus? Understanding and mastering the elements that make poetry a unique and captivating art form. Reserve your spot online.

The Sketchbook Habit: Sowing Seeds of Creativity – 10 a.m.
Designed for beginners and seasoned artists alike, this series at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens focuses on cultivating the essential habit of maintaining a visual journal through sketchbook keeping. Build your skills by attending each session, or select fewer sessions as your schedule allows. Please register online.

Overland Park Civic Band Summer Concert – 7 p.m.
Experience an evening of classical and contemporary music in the open air at the Indian Creek Recreation Center. Bring your friends and family, some snacks and a lawn chair or blanket for a free, fun evening of delightful tunes. Established in 1938, the Overland Park Civic Band is made up of talented musicians from across the Kansas City area.

Monday, June 10
Planning Commission – 1:30 p.m.
The Planning Commission considers all applications for final development plans and plats, holds public hearings and makes recommendations for final action to the Governing Body for rezoning, special use permits and preliminary development plans. It also prepares the Comprehensive Plan and reviews the Capital Improvements Program. Planning Commission meetings are held the second Monday of every month at City Hall in the Council Chamber.

Civil Service Commission – 6 p.m.
The Civil Service Commission reviews, approves, and assists the police department in the promotion process for officers below the rank of Captain. Meetings of the civil service are commission open to the public and meets the second Monday of the last month each quarter at 6 p.m. at Sanders Justice Center.

Tuesday, June 11
Plan Your Park: Gregory Meadows Park – 12-2 p.m.
Gregory Meadows Park neighbors are invited to help us plan a fun playground for Gregory Meadows Park. Bring the whole family to enjoy an afternoon in the park and let your little ones choose the equipment they’ll love. Our Parks Department will show pictures of different playground options, and you and your kids can vote on your favorite designs. Don’t miss this exciting chance to shape the future of your neighborhood park.

Board of Zoning Appeals – 7 p.m.
The Board of Zoning Appeals considers requests for relief from the requirements of the zoning ordinance and meets monthly, generally on the second Tuesday. The Board of Zoning Appeals meets at City Hall.

Wednesday, June 12
Site Plan Review Committee – 11:45 a.m.
The Site Plan Review Committee makes recommendations to the Planning Commission on matters relating to site planning and architectural details of development proposals. Thursday, June 13
Nature Storytime – 10:30 a.m.
Immerse yourself in the beauty of the outdoors with Nature Storytime at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, presented by Stepping Stones KC. Join us for a delightful blend of music, movement, and adventure as we explore the wonders of nature. These gatherings are targeted toward little nature lovers, ages 1-6. Caregivers and siblings need only pay admission to the Arboretum. Registration and caregiver presence is required.

Get ready for some nature-infused yoga fun with baby goats! Each session combines relaxing yoga poses with the mischievous presence of our goat pals who may decide to photobomb your warrior pose. Environmental Advisory Council – 6 p.m.
The Environmental Advisory Council studies environmental issues of the city, supporting and promoting existing and new programs for environmental awareness, solid waste management, and more. This council meets on the second Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

Wine Tasting on the Terrace – 6 p.m.
Relax and unwind as you enjoy wine and food samples from local vendors while surrounded by the beauty of the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. Book your tickets to Wine Tasting on the Terrace hosted by the Arts & Recreation Foundation of Overland Park. 

Concerts in the Park: The Elders – 7 p.m.
The concert series kicks off with beloved Celtic rockers The Elders taking the stage. Songstress Emma Jo will open the concert with her blend of heartland rock and glossy country music. Concert in the Park is a free summer concert series at the Thompson Park stage. Listen to some of your favorite songs under the stars after spending a summer day in Downtown Overland Park. The concert coincides with Downtown Overland Park’s Car Show, featuring classic and contemporary cars.

Environmental Advisory Council Officers Board – 8 p.m.
The regular meeting of the Environmental Advisory Council Officers Board is to be held at 8 p.m. in Conference Room 2 of the Myron Scafe Building, 8500 Antioch. The purpose of the Officers Board Meeting is to plan the agenda.

The Parks & Recreation Advisory Council advises and makes recommendations to the Governing Body and staff on residential parks and recreational needs and wants. It meets the last Tuesday of every month at City Hall.

Site Plan Review Committee – 11:45 a.m.
The Site Plan Review Committee makes recommendations to the Planning Commission on matters relating to site planning and architectural details of development proposals. Items may be recommended for committee review by the City Council, the Planning Commission or city staff. The Site Plan Review Committee meets at City Hall. 

Public Works Committee – 7 p.m.
Public Works Committee business generally includes streets and highways, public works facilities, traffic signals and signs, infrastructure planning, right of way management, sidewalks and bikeways, public transportation, stormwater management and traffic management systems. Public Works Committee meetings are held every fourth Wednesday of every month at City Hall in Conference Room 1.

Nature Storytime – 10:30 a.m.

CDBG Advisory Committee – 6:30 p.m.
The Community Development Block Grant Advisory Committee develops recommendations for use of Community Development Block Grant funds, a flexible program that provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. All committee meetings are open to the public and held at the Myron E. Scafe Building Multipurpose Room.

Friday, June 28
Coffee Connections – 8 a.m.
Join City staff and homeowners association leaders/volunteers at the Strang Carriage House at Thompson Park for Coffee Connections to network, share ideas and discuss common neighborhood issues. Coffee and light snacks will be provided.

Summer Movie Nights at the Arboretum: Elemental – 7 p.m.
Join us for these epic movies this summer. The Arboretum will open for the evening at 7 p.m.; movies will start after dark – around 8:45 p.m. The Gift Shop and Café Celeste will stay open late, plus we’ll have amazing food trucks each night. Bring your lawn chair or blanket, come early to explore our beautiful gardens and settle in for a magical evening:

  • July 26: Top Gun Maverick
  • August 23: The Goonies

Movie admission is $2 for ages 6-17, $5 for ages 18+ and completely free for Friends of the Arboretum members. Tickets on sale soon!
