Lay the roots of the Urban Forest Plan

Mature trees line a neighborhood street on a sunny day.

Share your thoughts and help lay the roots of the City of Overland Park’s Urban Forest Plan by participating in the plan’s survey, available through September 16.

The Urban Forest Plan will seamlessly integrate into Playbook OP, the Parks and Recreation Long Range Plan. This integration will solidify the plan’s pivotal role in shaping and enhancing the city’s urban landscape for years to come.

The Urban Forest Plan creates a comprehensive roadmap for responsible tree management and environmental stewardship. This forward-thinking plan sets a strategic vision to preserve and enhance the city’s tree canopy, fostering a healthy and resilient urban ecosystem.

Key features of the plan include:

  1. Preservation and growth: The plan protects existing trees while strategically expanding the canopy.
  2. Diversity and resilience: By planting a variety of species, the Urban Forest Plan aims to create a robust and adaptable urban forest.
  3. Sustainable practices: Implementing responsible management techniques is at the heart of the Urban Forest Plan. These practices are designed to ensure the long-term health of the trees, benefiting both the environment and the community.

By contributing your voice to the survey, you can help guide the development of the Urban Forest Plan.
