Fireworks Rain Show – July 5

Due to flooding in Indian Creek, extremely muddy conditions in the park and the threat of more weather in the forecast, the Overland Park Star Spangled Spectacular scheduled for Thursday, July 4, was canceled.

Improvements completed at Young’s Park

Grab your racket or paddle and head on down to the new and improved Young’s Park. Parks and Recreation crews recently completed improvements to the east side of the park, which include new pickleball courts.

The park, at 7701 Antioch, underwent construction on the improvements this fall. Crews constructed new pickleball courts next to the existing tennis courts, and they also resurfaced the tennis courts.

In addition to the court improvements, crews built a new playground, featuring synthetic turf, slides, swings, a mini rock climbing wall and more. They also built a new covered shelter, poured a new six-foot-wide sidewalk and installed two new monument signs.

The new pickleball courts fill a need for pickleball courts on the north side of Overland Park. All park courts are open on a first come, first served basis, and there is no fee to use them. Overland Park also has outdoor pickleball courts at Switzer Park.

The park improvements precede upcoming improvements to nearby Young’s Pool. The pool improvements, anticipated for 2021, include a new pool house and covered seating area.
