Overland Park is taking ideas from the community to name the new Farmers’ Market and Downtown Gathering Space Improvements project.
The City will begin construction on the new facility in December. When the project is complete, the space will house the Overland Park Farmers’ Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays during market season. The project will also bring:
- Permanent shade structures in outdoor spaces
- Additional seating for market visitors
- Expanded restroom access
- Improvements to spaces adjacent to the market structure, including the Clock Tower Plaza, Overland Park Drive and Marty Street
- Continued access to parking during non-market days
- A gathering space for watch parties, concerts and other public events in Downtown Overland Park adjacent to future private development in downtown Overland Park and more.
Help the City name this important project
The City wants to hear from the community about what the new space should be called.
Share your ideas for the future name of the market structure and surrounding area using this form. The form will be available through December 1. Ultimately, the City will choose a name for the facility from among the community’s suggestions.
There are two more “regular” farmers’ markets this year – on Saturday, November 16 and 23 from 8 a.m.-noon.
Market vendors take the final Saturday in November off, and then gather one last time for the year for a holiday market on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 8 a.m.-noon. On December 7, the Overland Park Farmers’ Market will host a Pavilion Farewell Celebration at 11:45 a.m., marking the final market at the current pavilion before the City embarks on the new project.
Pavilion to be repurposed
When the 2024 market season ends, the City will remove the old pavilion structure to prepare for the construction of a new market building and downtown gathering space. Overland Park plans to donate the current pavilion structure to the city of Garnett, Kansas to use for its farmers’ market.
