Get moving this May for National Bike Month

Celebrate cycling and the power of pedals during National Bike Month.

The City of Overland Park’s bicycling infrastructure offers residents and visitors the opportunity to explore safely on two wheels. More than 120 miles of bike lanes and dozens of miles of bike trails weave through Overland Park, connecting the City’s parks, neighborhoods, schools and recreation facilities.

The League of American Bicyclists established National Bike Month in 1956 to celebrate and encourage bicycling for recreation and transportation. Put down your car keys and join people across the country as they celebrate bicycling on the following dates:

  • May 7: National Ride a Bike Day
  • May 19: Bike to Work Day
  • May 15-21: Bike to Work Week

Make sure to stop by the City’s bicycle breakfast stops during National Bike to Work Week. City staff will be handing out breakfast bars, fruit, coffee and juice from 6:30-8:00 a.m. at a different location each day.

  • Monday, May 15 – 135th & Lamar Avenue (Near REI)
  • Tuesday, May 16 – 119th & Lowell Avenue (Tomahawk Ridge Community Center)
  • Wednesday, May 17 – 91st & Metcalf Avenue
  • Thursday, May 18 – 81st & Marty Street (Matt Ross Community Center)
  • Friday, May 19 – 85th & Santa Fe Drive (City Hall)

If you don’t own a bike, Ride KC has a bikeshare program with locations throughout Johnson County, and Bird scooters and bikes are available to rent in Overland Park. Rent an e-bike for an extra boost, or stick with a traditional bike for a classic experience.
