To keep your pets and our community safe and healthy, Overland Park requires all cats and dogs to have pet licenses. All dogs and cats in Overland Park must be registered by the time they are six months old or within 30 days of arriving in Overland Park.
As the registration deadline nears, it’s important to learn about the process and register your furry friends by June 30.
Upon registration, pet owners will receive a permanent, renewable pet tag. Licenses are valid from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31.

Use the city’s online permitting portal, ePLACE, to apply for and renew pet licenses.
Apply In Person
To apply in person, print and fill out a license application form. Return the form to the City Clerk’s office at City Hall, open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m-5 p.m., or mail the completed form to:

An after-hours drop box is located on the brick enclosure outside the City Hall front doors.
Licensing Fees
- $5 for spayed or neutered and microchipped pets
- $10 for spayed or neutered pets
- $10 for non-spayed or non-neutered but microchipped pets
- $20 for non-spayed or non-neutered pets
There is a $20 per pet penalty in addition to the licensing fee if renewing after June 30.
A maximum of two dogs and/or two cats can be licensed per residence. To own more, apply for a special animal permit.
The pet license requirement ensures all dogs and cats are vaccinated for rabies, protecting public health. Pet tags also help animal control quickly return lost pets to their owners.
