Overland Park City Council members and staff embarked on a construction tour, led by the City’s Public Works Department on Saturday, Aug. 24. This annual event fosters collaboration and open dialogue between elected officials and the experts responsible for the City’s ongoing infrastructure projects.
The tour began at the Overland Park Fire Training Center with a brief presentation and tour of the Overland Park Traffic Control System. Council members and City staff then boarded a bus for a driving tour of project sites to gain firsthand insights into the ongoing work.
The tour spotlighted several key projects, including:
- Concrete curb and sidewalk replacement near Antioch and 127th Street,
- College and Metcalf mobility enhancements,
- Bridge maintenance on Roe Avenue over Indian Creek,
- Metcalf Avenue improvements, 91st to 99th Streets,
- Traffic signal installation at 77th and Metcalf Avenue, and more.
Public Works Director Lorraine Basalo provided detailed explanations and fielded questions, ensuring that the Council members were well-informed about the progress and impact of each project.
“This tour provides our Council members with a vital opportunity to witness the progress of our projects firsthand and interact with the staff responsible for their efficient and effective delivery,” said Basalo. “It’s a chance to connect, answer questions and provide Council members with valuable insights that help strengthen the relationship between the City and its residents.”
