Registration is open for Community Emergency Response Team training, which is set to begin Tuesday, April 25. Overland Park’s emergency management division provides CERT training at no cost to give neighbors the ability to help one another and meet immediate lifesaving and life-sustaining needs in the event of an emergency.
Over the course of seven weeks, participants will learn:
- Disaster preparedness;
- Disaster fire suppression;
- Disaster medical operations;
- Light search and rescue operations;
- Disaster psychology, special needs, and team organization.
Classes will be held at the Overland Park Fire Training Center at 12401 Hemlock Street on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-9:30 p.m. from April 25 to June 6.
Classroom instruction is followed by practical exercises and evaluation. Participants will take a written test and practice their skills in a disaster simulation to conclude the course.
