As we bid farewell to a group of esteemed City staff members, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for their years of exemplary service. These individuals left an undeniable mark on the city and on the hearts of those they worked alongside.
Two from Public Works step into retirement this month, each dedicating more than two decades to serving our community.
Supervisory Civil Engineer Wayne Gudenkauf expressed the support he received from City leadership and the Governing Body motivated him to work for the City for 27 years.
“I’ve enjoyed my time working through projects with my coworkers, and I enjoy being a public servant,” shared Gudenkauf. “It’s a rewarding career to be able to help residents of Overland Park.”
Although Brian Shields plans to move to Nashville to be closer to his daughter during retirement, after 26 years as the City Traffic Engineer, Overland Park will always hold a special place in his heart. He shared:
“As they say in Kansas, there’s no place like home. That’s what I think of when I think of Overland Park.”
