All lanes and ramps at U.S. 69 and 119th Street are now open!
Access to the Highland Plaza shopping area is also fully restored, allowing drivers to enter the shopping center from the east and west.
119th Street at U.S. 69 along with the surrounding entrance and exit ramps closed this summer to expedite the reconstruction of the 119th Street and U.S. 69 interchange as part of the 69Express project. During the closure, crews removed and reconstructed the road, bridge and ramps.
Off-peak lane closures through the remainder of the year are expected as construction crews finish up work along 119th Street and the southbound U.S. 69 bridge over 119th Street.
The Overland Park Chamber of Commerce offered ideas for how to support local businesses near the closure during construction. You can read that on the chamber’s website.
The Kansas Department of Transportation’s project will build a new express toll lane in each direction adjacent to the existing general-purpose lanes to increase safety and improve congestion in the area. Additional work is also taking place at U.S. 69 and the 167th Street interchange as part of the project.
