Group Exercise

Tomahawk Ridge Community Center instructors teach a range of programs for all abilities and fitness levels.

30-75 minute group exercise classes are taught using examples of modifications of moves so participants can work out comfortably at their own level. We emphasize a fitness friendly, non-competitive environment in all classes.

Come and go as you please. Registration is not required.

Age Requirements

You must be 14 years of age or older to participate in group exercise classes. 14-15 year olds who participate must do so with a parent present in the class.

Class Schedules

Classes are taught in studios 1, 2, and 3 on the main level of Tomahawk Ridge Community Center. See the schedule to sort via location, time, instructor, and class type.

Schedule Changes

Generally, if Shawnee Mission School District or Blue Valley School District cancels classes, group exercise classes are also cancelled. However, we will review the forecast throughout the day and resume normal programs as soon as possible.

Group Exercise Fees

Attend a single class for the daily pass fee of $6 for adults, $5 for seniors ages 60 and older.

Monthly and annual rates are available. Total Fit Plans provide access to the entire Tomahawk Ridge Community Center facility, plus all classes.

Class Descriptions

20/20/20

Class type: Conditioning and strength

Enjoy a segmented exercise routine consisting of 20 mins of cardio, 20 mins of strength and 20 mins of stretching. The components can vary during each class.

Barbell Strength

Class type: Conditioning and strength

Take barbell exercises traditionally done in a weight room, add motivating music and an instructor to cue and spot your workout.

Body Shaper

Class type: Conditioning and strength

A conditioning class that could use free weights, resistance tubing, body bars, or BOSUs with a bit more intensity.

Cardio Dance Lite

Class type: Cardio

Choreographed dance movements in a workout style format. A variety of dance styles and music, followed by toning.

Chair + Strength

Class type: Conditioning and strength

All of the benefits of strength and stretch classes but with the assistance of a chair. None of the exercises will be done on the floor. This is a great class for knee and back pain.

Chair Yoga

Class type: Mind, Body + Core

This class merges strength, flexibility and relaxation. A chair is the focus for the exercises and used as support.

Core + More

Class type: Mind, Body + Core

This 30 minute class targets body weight exercises performed on a mat using a variety of positions; e.g., standing, seated, prone, supine kneeling or side-lying. All are designed to effectively strengthen, stabilize, and sculpt the core, glutes and legs.

Cycle

Class type: Cardio

A cardio workout done on a stationary bike. Big calorie burn and fun interaction between instructor and participants.

Dancing Sneakers

Class type: Cardio

Choreographed dance movements in a workout style format. A variety of dance styles and music, followed by toning.

FBI

Class type: Conditioning and strength

Full body interval classes, take your entire body through a duration of intensities focusing around strength, cardio and agility.

Functional Strength

Class type: Conditioning and strength

A conditioning class that uses free weights, resistance tubing, body bars, BOSUs and more. Turn up the volume with a bit more intensity for a great workout!

Gentle Yoga

Class type: Mind, Body + Core

A more relaxed version of a typical yoga class, participants will hold poses longer and use provided props, including mats, straps, and blocks.

HIIT

Class type: Cardio

High-intensity interval training is a 45-minute workout with short periods of high intense activity followed by short recovery periods.

Keep Fit Kickboxing

Class type: Cardio

This high-energy kickboxing class incorporates explosive cardio drills with both boxing and kickboxing moves. Bring gloves and prepare to sweat.

Kickboxing

Class type: Conditioning and strength

Experience a total body workout done with a stand-up kickboxing bag in this non-contact class. Improve your endurance and mobility with this 55 minute class. Gloves are recommended, but not required.

Pilates

Class type: Mind, Body + Core

Precise movements emphasize stabilization to condition and strengthen the back and abdominal muscles.

PiYo

Class type: Conditioning and strength

Blended exercises of Pilates and Yoga for a combination of a total mind-body workout.

Power 30

Class type: Conditioning and strength

Short on time? This class is designed to maximize your workout efforts in only 30 minutes. A variety of equipment will be used, depending on the class and instructor.

Step

Class type: Cardio

This class uses intermediate to advanced step combinations followed by core exercises and strengthening to get your heart pumping.

Strengthen + Stretch

Class type: Conditioning and strength

Gentle exercises that use various equipment to strengthen your muscles, increase range of motion and improve your flexibility. Exercises can be done standing or seated.

Tai Chi

Class type: Mind, Body + Core

Gentle, meditative exercise consisting of flowing circular movements, balance, weight shifting and breathing techniques.

Qi Gong

Class type: Mind, Body + Core

Flowing movements create a sense of tranquility and internal strength in the body that tones internal organs, soothes the central nervous system and directs energy through energetic pathways.

Yoga

Class type: Mind, Body + Core

The merging of strength, flexibility and relaxation. Props are provided, includes mats, straps and blocks.

Zumba Gold

Class type: Cardio

Designed for beginners or older active adults, this class features Latin dance steps and aerobic fitness moves set to international rhythms at a lower intensity and slower pace than typical Zumba classes.
