9/11 Memorial
Overland Park’s 9/11 Memorial honors those lost their lives on September 11, remembers their sacrifices, and teaches future generations about the tragic day.
At the memorial you will experience:
- A 14-foot, 2.5 ton steel beam from ground zero.
- Four educational panels that include information from the 9/11 Commission Report tell the stories of each downed flight.
- A victim’s panel which lists the names of those who died.
- A weeping wall fountain that represents those who survived.
- Granite tiles pulled from the World Trade Center after the attacks.

History
In 2009, Overland Park firefighter Trevor Miller and Capt. Paul Bishoff made an application to the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey for a piece of steel from the fallen World Trade Center towers.
MIQ Logistics volunteered to deliver the piece of history and SFS Architecture designed the memorial.
More than a dozen other companies and individuals volunteered time and resources to build the 9/11 Memorial.
The City of Overland Park is honored to be the caretaker of the 9/11 Memorial, and is grateful to all the companies and people who provided an invaluable contribution to a lasting tribute that will serve as a reminder for decades.
