Double Feature: Two opportunities to watch movies under the stars this weekend

Get ready for a weekend of outdoor cinema magic in Overland Park!

Whether you’re in the mood for an adventurous throwback or a delightful animated tale, these events at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens and Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead offer the perfect opportunity to relax, unwind and enjoy a movie under the stars with your loved ones.

The Arboretum invites you to an unforgettable summer movie night on Friday, August 23. Watch the classic adventure film “The Goonies,” surrounded by stunning garden views.

Gates open at 7 p.m. and the movie begins at dusk or around 9 p.m. Arrive early to explore the lush gardens, enjoy extra activities, including mini golf and face painting, and grab a bite to eat before finding the perfect spot on the lawn. Movie snacks, menu items and drinks will be available for purchase from Café Celeste and Jack Stack Barbecue, featuring pulled pork, chicken and beef sandwiches.

Make sure to bring your folding chairs or a cozy blanket for comfortable seating. Coolers and outside food or drinks are not allowed. Tickets can be purchased online in advance, so secure your spot early!

For our younger audiences, MOO-vie Night at Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead is the place to be on Saturday, August 24. This event, presented by Hiland Dairy, features a free outdoor screening of “A Bug’s Life.”

Join us at 5 p.m. to explore the Farmstead and enjoy activities including a DJ, face painter, KC Bubble Parties and food trucks.

Bring your blanket and enjoy Farmstead fun before the MOO-vie begins at dusk, around 8 p.m.

Whether you’re a fan of adventure or animation, Overland Park has something special in store for you. So, grab your loved ones, head outdoors, and enjoy a magical evening under the stars.
