Biography

Council Member Logan Heley was elected to the Overland Park City Council in November 2017 and re-elected in November 2021. He served as City Council president in 2024.

Council Member Heley has been a resident of Ward 1, the area he represents, since 1994. Four generations of his family have called Overland Park home. Heley cares about Overland Park neighborhoods and is active in the community. Recognizing the importance of sustainability for the city’s quality of life, he participates in the Overland Park Environmental Advisory Council and has served on the City’s Advisory Council on Parks and Recreation. Additionally, he represents the Council on the Legacy of Greenery Committee.

Heley serves on the board of directors for the Kansas City Regional Transit Alliance and the Johnson County Transportation Council. He is the Kansas co-chair of the Mid-America Regional Council’s Sustainable Places Policy Committee. He also serves as the Mayor’s representative on the MARC Board of Directors and is a member of the Executive Committee for the Overland Park Chamber Economic Development Council.

Heley is an active member of Climate Action KC. He previously served on the board of Metropolitan Energy Center, the Shawnee Mission UU Church Board of Trustees and the Alumni Network Advisory Board for the Youth Volunteer Corps. Heley is a Johnson County Citizens Academy graduate.

Professionally, Heley works as the Executive Director for Heartland Conservation Alliance. HCA collaborates with partners to protect, connect and restore the Blue River watershed and its urban greenspaces for everyone’s benefit and enjoyment. A significant portion of Overland Park lies within this watershed. Previously, Heley was a community engagement manager for Harvesters—The Community Food Network and served as Harvesters’ liaison to the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce. He also interned at the Obama White House as a press intern and worked in constituent services as a Congressional intern. To help finance his education, he worked as a package handler for UPS and was a member of the Teamsters union.

A graduate of Shawnee Mission schools, Heley graduated Cum Laude from the University of Southern California with dual degrees in Broadcast Journalism and History and holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Kansas with certificates in City & County Management and Urban Planning.
