Unleash your creativity in OP’s Chalk the Walk contest

It’s time to get creative and colorful outdoors! 

The citywide Chalk the Walk contest launches on August 1 with the inspiring theme “OP, the places you’ll go.” Residents are encouraged to create beautiful sidewalk chalk art in front of their homes, around their neighborhoods and near neighborhood schools.

Submit your masterpieces by August 15. Online voting will be open for each category from August 16 to August 22 and winners will be announced August 23.

Participants are welcome to submit multiple entries, but each artwork can only be entered into one of the following award categories:

  • Best Use of Theme
  • Best Use of a Sidewalk Blemish
  • Youth Ages 8 and under
  • Youth Ages 9-13

Winners in each category will receive passes to some of Overland Park’s most popular attractions.

Supplies

Small sets of chalk are available for free from Overland Park Neighborhood Services and can be picked up from August 1-15 at any of the following locations during their normal business hours:

  • Overland Park City Hall
  • Matt Ross Community Center
  • Tomahawk Ridge Community Center
  • Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens
  • Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead
  • Central Resource Library
