Overland Park is again near the top of a list of “Best Places to Live in the U.S.”
Research organization Livability.com named Overland Park the seventh best place to live in the country.
Livability has created a list of the best places to live in America for more than a decade. The organization considers a city’s economy, housing and cost of living, amenities, transportation, environment, safety, education and health factors when determining top cities in which to live.
Many of the topics in Livability’s methodology directly connect to goals and themes in the City of Overland Park’s updated draft comprehensive plan, Framework OP. The draft plan is scheduled for adoption at Monday night’s 7:30 p.m. City Council meeting.
“I am, of course, proud to see our dynamic community continue to be near the top of Livability’s list, as we have worked for many years to provide a high quality of life,” said Mayor Curt Skoog. “As our work to implement Framework OP begins, we will continue to work toward improving these factors and meeting the high expectations of our residents and visitors.”
Overland Park has ranked on Livability’s list every year since 2020.
City prepares to adopt and implement new comprehensive plan
Overland Park has been working since 2022 to update its comprehensive plan, which guides future land development.
The plan encompasses social and environmental issues, as well as land use plans. Its goals are focused around land use, economic well-being, housing, mobility, environment and quality of life.
The project team developed the plan with feedback from the community through public workshops, stakeholder interviews, steering committee guidance and advisory team expertise. In all, more than 2,000 people shared their thoughts about the city’s future.
