What is the OP Moves dedicated sales tax?

For 25 years, Overland Park’s dedicated one-eighth cent (0.125 percent) infrastructure sales tax funded transportation infrastructure and traffic management projects in the City. With the current sales tax set to expire in March of 2024, the results of the OP Moves sales tax election will determine whether the City has continued funding for the maintenance, rehabilitation and replacement of key elements of Overland Park’s transportation infrastructure.

If the community approves, the OP Moves sales tax election would raise the dedicated infrastructure sales tax to three-eighths of one cent (0.375 percent). The City’s Infrastructure Advisory Group recommended increasing the City’s sales tax in order to provide an additional $28.5 million per year in funding is necessary to keep City streets, bridges, traffic management systems, stormwater systems and more infrastructure in good condition. The OP Moves sales tax generates a major portion of this recommended funding increase.

The new sales tax would take effect in April 2024 and expire in 2034.
