A winning weekend; Overland Park activities to pair with the NFL Draft

Kansas City is set to host the 2023 NFL Draft April 27-29, drawing football fans near and far. Don’t make any snap decisions! As you huddle up your family and friends to make a game plan, have your playbook ready for a winning weekend in nearby Overland Park.

Kick off your adventures with a visit to Downtown Overland Park. With nearly 300 locally owned businesses, Downtown Overland Park offers a wide variety of places to shop, dine or explore. Whether you stay for the day or your time is limited, you will find excitement around every corner.

Escape the crowd and tackle one of Overland Park’s more than 80 parks and outdoor spaces. Search City parks by available amenities to find the perfect spot to relax or play.

Surround yourself with more than 1,700 species of plants at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. Take a tour or take a timeout in the Arboretum’s gardens or explore the hiking trails and open prairie.

If you crave even more sports, pick up a pickleball paddle. Overland Park was recently named America’s Most Pickleball-Obsessed City and has more than 75 public and private courts on which to play. Whether you are a seasoned pro or a beginner, challenge your friends and family to a game. Pickleball courts are available for free public use at Antioch Acres Park, Switzer Park and Young’s Park.

Send sports to the sideline, and immerse yourself in Overland Park’s art scene. Art at the Center features work by local artists. Located at Tomahawk Ridge Community Center, this exhibit is free and open to the public. Take a driving tour to find sculpture installations across the City using our public art map.

From one draft to another. Take the family for a wagon ride pulled by a team of Belgian draft horses at Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead. Admission to the Farmstead includes access to petting pens, animal exhibits and the Dairy Barn. Try your hand at fishing in the pond or bottle-feed one of more than 40 baby goats for additional fees.
