Students from Overland Park sister city set to perform with local high school students

Students from the Musikschule-im-Schloss music school in Bietigheim-Bissingen, Overland Park’s sister city in Germany, will share the stage with Shawnee Mission South High School students during a German Exchange Concert at Thompson Park on Saturday, April 8 at 7 p.m.

As part of the Sister City Program, music students from Shawnee Mission South High School and Musikschule-im-Schloss alternate visits every four years to share cultural and educational experiences. The students visiting from Germany spent the week experiencing life in Overland Park and touring City facilities, including a tour of City Hall led by Mayor Curt Skoog.

Since their official establishment as Sister Cities in 1999, Overland Park and Bietigheim-Bissingen city officials have worked together to establish opportunities for both communities.

With a population of 42,500, the historic city of Bietigheim-Bissingen is known for its wine growing tradition, public libraries, gallery of art, sculptures and architecture, including its 500 year-old city tower. Learn more about the Sister City Program at opkansas.org.
