Spring is officially in the air. If you are looking for family-friendly activities near home, here are ten opportunities available throughout Overland Park.
- Spring is the perfect time to get outdoors. Breathe in the fresh air when you visit one of the City’s more than 80 parks and open spaces. Pack a picnic and take in the beautiful spaces available throughout Overland Park.
- As you make your way to the park, challenge your family and friends to a game of tennis, pickleball, volleyball or basketball. Amenities vary at each park. Find your favorite activity here.
- For even more adventure, explore one of the City’s trails. The Indian Creek and Tomahawk Creek trails provide miles of open space, connecting the City’s parks, neighborhoods, schools and recreation facilities.
- Spend a day at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. During your visit, experience gardens with more than 1,700 species of plants, hiking trails and different educational opportunities around every bend in the path.
- Book a tee time at one of Overland Park’s scenic golf courses, or practice your swing at the driving range. After you sink your final putt, enjoy lunch at Club 27 Restaurant located at Sykes/Lady Overland Park Golf Club.
- Find the perfect fishing spot at one of the City’s six lakes located within City parks. The city’s two largest lakes, South Lake and Kingston Lake, feature fishing piers. A fishing license is required at all City lakes for everyone ages 16-74.
- If weather brings you inside, go for an indoor swim at Matt Ross Community Center. The leisure pool is designed for people of all ages and features a water slide, lazy river and water toys.
- Head to Tomahawk Ridge Community Center to take in the work of local artists. Art at the Center features student exhibitions as well as artists featured in the City’s permanent collection, artists who use varied media and artists who create based on their life perspectives. The gallery is free and open seven days a week during community center hours.
- While you are visiting Tomahawk Ridge Community Center, challenge your family and friends to a game of table tennis. Two tables are available in the game room located off of the main lobby. The game room is open to the public and does not require a membership or daily pass to use.
- Fill the family calendar with exciting upcoming events happening in Overland Park, including the openings of Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead and the Farmer’s Market along with workshops, camps and concerts.
