Deadline approaching for 2020 pet licenses

Have you submitted a pet license application for your furry friend yet? The deadline to do so is June 30, and you can register online, via mail, or in person.

Pet licensing assures your pet is safe against rabies, as proof of a rabies vaccination is required to register your pet. It also helps animal control if pets get lost. Animal control officers use the City license tag to reunite lost pets with their owners.

All cats and dogs must be registered by the time they turn six months old, or within 30 days of being brought into Overland Park. The fee is $10 for each spayed or neutered pet or $20 for each non-spayed or non-neutered pet.

If you don’t register your pet by the deadline, you will be charged a penalty fee starting July 1. The penalty is $20 per pet in addition to the license fee.

During this time, we encourage you to register your pet online on our website. You can also mail your registration to the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall (8500 Santa Fe) or walk-in payment at the City Clerk window.

Drop-box payment is available if you aren’t able to come by during City Hall’s regular hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The drop-box is located outside the front entrance to the left of the front doors.
