Overland Park goes red for the Kansas City Chiefs

You can feel it in the air and see it on the streets.

The excitement is growing in Overland Park in honor of the Kansas City Chiefs and the team’s first trip to the Super Bowl in 50 years.

At tonight’s City Council meeting, Mayor Carl Gerlach will read a proclamation recognizing the team’s excellent playoff run. It designates Friday, January 31, through Sunday, February 2, as Red Chiefs Days in Overland Park and urge all residents to wear red in recognition and support of the Chiefs.

Visit Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead to see short show featuring Chiefs players, coaches, and colors displayed on LED lights at the entry barn. The show features music that will get you excited for Sunday’s game.

A sculpture in Downtown Overland Park of Overland Park founder William Strang is sporting its own custom jersey. Hybrid Circle, part of the City’s public art collection, is awash in red and gold light near 113th and Switzer. An applicant has requested a special event permit to display Chiefs-themed artwork on top of a private building in the City Place development.

Chiefs spirit is alive in Overland Park neighborhoods as well. Residents have put up displays in their yards and flags on their homes. Share your Chiefs spirit with us on the City’s social media accounts.
