Pet owners may find it tempting to take Rover for a walk without a leash. However, you are reminded to keep your dog on a leash and under control.
Overland Park has a leash law. Dogs must be on a leash at all times when not confined to a residence or backyard.
The leash may not exceed 10 feet in length and must be held by an individual. Letting a dog run loose with a leash attached but not held by an individual is a violation of the city’s leash law ordinance.
Violation of the ordinance may result in a fine of $70 or more.
Due to complaints about dogs running loose on Overland Park’s Indian Creek Bike/Hike Trail, animal control officers will patrol the paths.
Johnson County’s Stoll Park, Heritage Park and Shawnee Mission Park all have off-leash areas. For more information, call 913/438-7275.
