Dogs

DogDogs Running Loose

Dogs must be kept on the property of the owner, keeper, harborer except:

  1. When on a leash no longer than 10 feet and under control of a responsible person.
  2. When confined in a motor vehicle or cage for a limited period of time.

    Note: It is illegal to transport a dog in the open bed of a pickup truck unless restrained by a leash or cage that keeps it from jumping or falling out.

  3. When under control of the owner, keeper, harborer during an organized dog show or exhibition.
  4. When under control of the owner, keeper, harborer during legal hunting activities.

Dogs MUST Be Confined

Confined to the residential property of the owner, keeper, harborer means:

  1. Confined to the residential structure.
  2. If outside the residential structure, the dog must be physically restrained on a leash or chain or within a suitable fence or other proper restraint from which it cannot escape.
  3. The dog is in the physical presence of its owner, keeper, harborer, on that person's property and under their demonstrated direct and immediate voice control.
  4. Confined by an electronic fence or an electronic collar. Dogs confined by this method may not be closer than 10 feet from any public sidewalk or property line that is contiguous to neighboring property, and cannot be in the front yard of the property (letter to residents regarding electric fences).

Some dogs can be classified as dangerous animals.
