In May, the City Council approved a $12.9 million bid for the installation of synthetic turf on 12 fields at the Overland Park Soccer Complex.
McAnany Construction Company, Shawnee, will begin laying down 1.2 million square feet of synthetic turf in the next couple of weeks (this is enough turf to cover the average front yard of about 460 homes in OP).
Installation of the turf will be done in three phases:
- Fields 1, 2 and 3 in phase one;
- Fields 9, 10, 11 and 12 in phase two, which begins in September; and
- Fields 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 in phase three that begins in October.
Construction on the complex began in November, 2007.
The field installation should be completed by Aug. 1, 2009, and the facility is expected to be operational by September, 2009.
