Property Tax Rebate Program

The City of Overland Park offers a property tax rebate program for eligible Overland Park residents. The program’s goal is to help those in need of assistance continue to afford to live in their homes.

The program offers a rebate of up to 75% of city property taxes. Overland Park’s share of the average home’s property taxes is equal to $832.

Application Period

Applications for fall 2025 are now closed.

Approved applicants will receive their rebates as checks in the mail by the end of November.

Rebate Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, you must:

Be an Overland Park resident
Live in and own your home
Be current on your property taxes
Meet low-income limits from the Department of Housing and Urban Development
Not have received a property tax rebate in the first round of 2025 rebates.

Property taxes must be paid in full prior to the City providing a rebate. Most residents will pay their property taxes in two installments. The first installment is in December. The second installment is in May. Both payments must be paid before the City will provide the rebate.

Priorities for Awarding Rebates

The City awards rebates based on priority criteria, including:

Income: Household income at or below HUD’s low-income limits.
Appraised value: Homes that are appraised lower than Overland Park’s previous year’s average property value.
Additional need: Veterans, people with disabilities and senior citizens over the age of 65.
Long-time residence: Homeowners who have stayed at their current address for more than 15 years.
Priority neighborhoods: Homeowners living in one of the City’s risk-watch neighborhoods.
