Human Resources

The Human Resources Department is committed to attracting, hiring, motivating, training and retaining the best employees in order to provide the highest quality of service to residents, businesses and organizations within the City of Overland Park.

Through comprehensive human resource programs and systems, the five HR divisions work to support the management of the city's most valuable resource: its employees.

The city's recruitment/hiring process and online employment application system make it easy for applicants to check for and apply for open positions.

  • We welcome all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, marital status or disability.
  • We ensure each employee a discrimination-free workplace and have a strong commitment to affirmative action and equal employment opportunities.

The HR Department welcomes new employees with a thorough orientation and provides ongoing support through, what we believe, is one of the most competitive Employee compensation, benefits and retirement packages among local governmental employers. By staying competitive, we are able to attract and retain the quality workforce that has built our reputation as a premier municipality.

Our commitment to employee training and development prepares employees to meet day-to-day and long-term challenges. The safety and loss prevention programs educate employees on practices that prevent injury and loss. The department also provides effective conflict resolution alternatives and positive recognition programs for employees.
